Innovative assessment
e-Assessment platforms often provide many powerful and intuitive ways of delivering and marking assessment activities. For example, prompt material may include video, audio and animation as well as traditional text questions. Responses can be a mixture of writing, speaking, and interaction with a custom user interface (pushing buttons, moving sliders, ‘drawing’ on a diagram or graph etc). Writing effective and engaging items which can be automatically marked requires a detailed understanding of the capabilities of the e-assessment platform, the underpinning subject and its application, and of the qualification specification.
AlphaPlus has staff with a mix of subject, technical and educational backgrounds, with direct experience of a wide range of e-assessment approaches, making us ideally placed to build multidisciplinary teams to author innovative e-assessment material. We can design bespoke authoring projects where we author an initial set of resources, possibly beginning with the conversion of existing resources. In addtion, we can develop a capacity building programme to train our clients’ staff in authoring for the new e-assessment platform.
