Design and development

Most qualifications are underpinned by a set of documents which lay out expectations for the candidate’s performance. In vocational and professional settings, these performance expectations may be linked to occupational standards and job descriptions as part of a Human Resources framework including appraisal and monitoring systems. Assessment specifications will also include information about how the candidate’s skills and understanding are to be assessed – which topics will be covered in the assessment and in what balance, which are to be assessed by examination, portfolio or observation, etc. All of this work needs to be completed before the work on writing assessment materials can be written.

AlphaPlus helps Awarding Organisations, sector skills councils and professional bodies manage this process. We develop assessment specifications and produce, trial and quality assure occupational and performance standards, including managing professional consultation activities. We also undertake mapping work to link qualifications and compare standards across qualifications.
