Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The project will produce a report and draft consultation paper on the future use of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in Wales using the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales (CQFW) as the means of recognition, accumulation and transfer of achievement. The paper will focus on the efficacy of arrangements for assessment of formally unrecognised skills, knowledge and competencies toward recognised qualifications and credit achievements which enhance employability.

The current economic situation requires that Wales remains competitive as a location for indigenous and inward investment. There are key industries where changes in materials and manufacturing techniques, cyclical change and future sustainability issues require the workforce to be appropriately skilled and adaptable to face new challenges. In this context, this project is to identify the current and potential future contribution of RPL to employability and adaptability, and to make recommendations to maximise the use of RPL in Wales where appropriate.
